Nonprofit HR Solutions has partnered with the University of San Diego’s Caster Family Center
for Nonprofit Research to conduct the 4th Annual Nonprofit Employment Trends Survey. According to the groups, this national survey of nonprofit employment practices is designed to address the lack of statistical information available on nonprofit human resources practices and trends.

Free Seminar: Managing Personnel in Tough Economic Times

Pfizer Inc, in conjunction with the DC Bar Pro Bono program and the law firm of DLA Piper is sponsoring a free video conference seminar, "Managing Personnel in Tough Economic Times: Smart Ways to Avoid Legal Problems While Reducing Personnel Costs," on Thursday, December 3.
The seminar will be held at the law offices of DLA Piper, 500 8th Street, NW (Metro stop – Gallery Place on the Red, Yellow and Green lines). It will begin at 10:50 a.m. and run until 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be served.
This seminar will discuss legally permissible ways to help conserve resources and avoid employee terminations. For those organizations that must terminate staff, the laws regulating reductions in force will be explained and demystified. This seminar will also highlight other legal risks facing employers in hard times, including the misclassification of employees, wage and hour violations, and union organizing campaigns.
This seminar is designed for executive directors, board members, and officers with financial, operations and human resources responsibilities.

Free Webinar: How to Handle Laying-off Employees
The Community Economic Development Project of the DC Bar Pro Bono Program is hosting a series of free webinars for nonprofits on dealing with employees. Each webinar is 60-75 minutes long. The presenters are lawyers from some of the top law firms in DC who specialize in counseling companies on employment law matters.
The next session at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 looks at "How to Handle Laying-off Employees." Details below:
Session Topic: Given the difficult financial times we are in, many nonprofits may have to lay off some of their employees. This session will walk you through the legal steps you should take in order to avoid any claims of unfair treatment or discrimination and what your legal obligations are to the laid-off workers.
